We just don't know enough about the Emporer. He created the Primarchs, making them godlike among space marines just as space marines are godlike around humans. But what made the Emporer. He just appeared, the greatest single psyker in the history of mankind, physically greater than any of the Primarchs. The Emporer had an agenda more complex than "conquer the galaxy" that hasn't been revealed yet.

It's obvious that a man as Intelligent as the Emporer would have forseen the reactions of his final dicisions (naming Horus Warmaster, leaving the crusade.) One of the reoccuring themes that the HH touches on subtly from time to time is what happens after the crusade was over. Space Marines arn't designed for the ardous duty of guarding worlds or sitting back. They are designed to be the emporers hammer, striking suddenly and eliminating one target before moving to the next. By naming Horus Warmaster, he took all of the Primarchs jealousy and Envy of power and removed it from himself and set it on one of their own.

I think the Emporer saw the weaknesss of the Primarchs even before the began to fall to Chaos, noone understood the Warp better than him. (Except the Eldar of course) I think he wanted to cause a civil war, he wanted his children to eliminate themselves before the crusade was over and he was forced to deal with 20 ambitious, intelligent, powerful, BORED Primarchs and their legions. He hoped to sweep across the galaxy with his custodes and tithed soldiers drawn from the very worlds his children forced into compliance and reclaim HIS galaxy without fear of any of his "sons" attempting to usurp his throne. He just underestimated the power of the Chaos Gods.

My wild theory anyway.

I don't think the Emperor was a fool, everything he seemed to do had a plan within a plan!! With that being said look at the religious aspect of it, on Terra he destroys the last church(great short story in anthology about this)and makes a statement for where he stands on the religous matter. I think the reason he did this was that religion to him was divisive and he needed humanity to be united for what lie ahead. The Great Crusade was about to begin and his greatest creations (the Primarch's & Space Marines) lie in the near future. He then used himself as the central rallying point for all humanity, both on Terra and among the stars. I can see where too many he would seem to be Godlike in his physical prowess,mental powers and his intellect. Everything hinged on his decisions, and maybe it was hubris on his part. He seemed to trust in his son's judgement too much without a closer watch on them. This I believe is what led to the Heresy the lack of parental control when it counted?? Magnus got full of himself and look at his screw-up and the others began to argue amongst themselves even more and creating divisions amongst one another. The chief thing that was triggered here though with out any control was EGO'S. Each Primarch wanted to outshine the other for their Father's atttention and this led to even more infighting that give Chaos force the gap it needed to enter in. This is where the true seduction began!! The Emperor did not take the time to explain to his son's what he was doing and plain old fashioned jealousy and hurt feelings did the rest. Think what might have happened if the Emperor had gathered all of his son's and showed them why he was leaving the Great Crusade and shared with them his plan for humanity and for each of them.

The audio books are pretty good, but nothing beats sitting down and reading an entertaining book!! If you're interested in Kruze get "Soul Hunter" and read it. Good story line alot of material about Kruze and his legion. There is also another one coming out near the end of the year about the Night Lord's legion. I think that the Ravenguard have a book coming out as well??

It seems with all these new toys for the Blood Angels they are definitely going to be in your face, hard hitting and fast attack force. Between Mephiston and Dante and now the Sanquinary guard it's going to get interesting on table tops worldwide. New Tyranids, Space Wolves and now Blood angels, wonder who's next Necrons or Dark Eldar???

Sometimes it's hard to get motivated to do anything with these models. So, I usually pick up one of the fluff books and get re-motivated to build, paint and convert. Doesn't always work, but most of the time it does!! Easy now days to find fluff reading material for said motivation between all the new novels and availability of material on web sites. Sometimes, though you just got to keep plugging along??
